In short

We offer three types of NDIS accommodation in Melbourne: short-term accommodation (STA), medium-term accommodation (MTA) and respite care. Each one gives you a safe, comfortable place to stay, with support from our team during your stay.

Who it’s for

  • Participants who need a short break away from home
  • Families and carers who need a rest
  • People waiting for home modifications or a new long-term home
  • People who want to try living more independently

Types of accommodation

Three ways to stay with us.

Each option includes support from our team during your stay.

Short-term accommodation (STA)

A short stay away from home with support included – for example to give you and your carers a break, or to try something new and build your skills.

Medium-term accommodation (MTA)

Somewhere to live for a while when you can’t move into your long-term home yet – for example while you wait for home modifications or a new home to be ready.

Respite care

A planned break for you and the people who care for you, with support in a safe and welcoming place.

Choosing well

What to look for in NDIS accommodation.

We’ll help you weigh up your options. It’s worth thinking about:

  • Accessibility – can you move around easily and safely?
  • Location – close to family, services and the places you go
  • Transport – how you’ll get to appointments and activities
  • The support available during your stay
  • Who else is staying, and how you’ll get along
  • How it fits your goals and your NDIS plan

Questions about accommodation? Call or WhatsApp us. We’ll check what your plan covers.

01

Short-term accommodation (STA).

STA is a short stay away from home, with support included. It can give you and your carers a break, or be a chance to try new things and build skills. You may also see it called short-term respite – the NDIS has used both names.

STA funding can’t be used for holiday costs such as holiday packages, holiday accommodation or airfares. We’ll check how much STA is in your plan and help you plan your stays across the year.

02

Medium-term accommodation (MTA).

MTA is somewhere to live when you have a long-term home lined up but can’t move in yet – for example while home modifications are finished or while your SDA home is being built.

MTA is usually funded for up to 90 days. The NDIS generally only funds MTA when your long-term housing is confirmed, so it isn’t usually funded while you’re on a waiting list for social or community housing.

Not sure where to start?

Tell us what you need. We’ll explain your options for accommodation and check what your NDIS plan can cover.

03

Planning your stay.

To help us support you well from day one, let us know about:

  • Your medications and how you take them
  • Equipment you use or need
  • Your daily routines and personal care needs
  • Dietary needs and allergies
  • How you communicate and what helps you feel settled
  • Who to contact in an emergency

NDIS funding

How it’s funded.

STA, MTA and respite need to be funded in your NDIS plan. The rules and limits are different for each type, so we’ll check your plan with you and explain your options before you book.

FAQ

Accommodation: your questions.

Still not sure? Call us or send a message and we’ll help you work it out.

What is the difference between STA and MTA?

STA is a short stay, often for respite or to build skills. MTA is for a longer period when you can’t move into your long-term home yet – for example while you wait for Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) or home modifications.

Is respite the same as STA?

Respite is a break for you and your carers. Under the NDIS, respite stays are often funded as short-term accommodation. We’ll check how it works with your plan.

Does accommodation include personal care?

Yes. Support during your stay can include personal care, household tasks, medication reminders and help joining in community activities, depending on your needs and your plan.

Do you provide SDA?

Yes. Timeless Services VIC is a registered Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) provider. We also provide short-term and medium-term accommodation, respite care and Supported Independent Living (SIL).

How do I book a stay?

Call us, send a WhatsApp message or fill in the enquiry form. We’ll check availability and go through your plan with you.

Can I use STA for a holiday?

No. STA funding can’t be used for holiday packages, holiday accommodation or airfares. It pays for a supported stay that relates to your disability support needs.

How long can I stay in MTA?

MTA is usually funded for up to 90 days, while you wait to move into your confirmed long-term home. The NDIA may consider a longer period in some situations.

Can I go to STA or MTA straight from hospital?

Sometimes, yes. If home isn’t ready, a supported stay can bridge the gap. Read about our hospital discharge support.
